Science and Buddhism have many points of agreement. Do you think that this affects the reason why Buddhists believe in the religion? Would you follow a religion if certain aspects of it could be scientifically proven or would you just use this knowledge to further your own beliefs?
I feel that the impact that science plays on Buddhism is minimal. Buddhists have been practicing these methods of enlightenment for millenniums and I doubt that it plays a large role in the east. However, Buddhism may attract people from the west due to these scientific similarities. I wouldn't let scientific discoveries cause me to convert to a different religion simply because its accurate because I feel religions are meant to seek answers beyond human explanation. Clearly, science would affect my beliefs but I would only let this better understand the world and strengthen my internal faith.
ReplyDeleteI think that science may play a role on why some people are Buddhist. To be honest, it all depends on the person and if they feel that they need to be persuaded that their religion is correct. I would only use this information to further my beliefs in the religion. I think that it isn't best to search for a religion based on what science can prove for it. It would give me more reason to believe in it, but science wouldn't be the most important thing I look for in a religion.
